The Best Puppy Treats

Some puppy treats, like some puppy foods, are loaded with fillers and chemicals. We probably wouldn’t eat these ourselves, so why should we feed them to our dogs?  Fillers and empty grains do little except add calories to a dog’s diet.  While this may not be a terrible issue when they are puppies, it can be a problem as they get older.  Extra weight brings a lot of problems to a dog and if their food and treats are loaded with junk, their health may suffer.

Read The Labels Carefully!

While there are some regulations concerning dog food and treats, there aren’t any strict interpretations of the word “natural” when it comes to labeling.  Some less than ethical companies will use natural as a selling point, but an examination of their labels show a lot of chemicals and additives.  Organic is better controlled and almost all companies now follow USDA regulations regarding the labeling of organic pet foods and treats.

Check the labels before you buy any puppy treats.  The number one ingredient should be a protein source and you want to avoid corn or wheat fillers.  Soy is often used and it can be hard to find on the label.  Often it is called textured vegetable protein, which almost sounds like it would be good for your pet.  You also need to pay close attention to food coloring and artificial flavors.

While most people would never use the phrase “human grade dog treats” as a selling tool, it actually makes sense with this treat.  This is a natural, very basic puppy treat that had no sugar, no fillers and uses peanut butter as the protein base.  Dogs love peanut butter and respond well to any treat that has peanut butter in it.  The treats are low calorie and high fiber, meaning that your puppy will get health benefits from a treat that they are sure to love.

This chunky puppy treat has a chunky name, but it is an outstanding natural, organic treat that your dog will love.  The core ingredients are peanut butter (and we know how dogs love peanut butter), blueberries and chia.  All three ingredients add health benefits to the treat, especially the blueberries and their antioxidant features.    Besides being vegetarian, the treats are all natural and have no grains or fillers.  They are baked, giving them a nice crunch that your dog will love.
